Is it better to add Liver of Sulphur patina before or after tumble polishing?

The general advice is to add patina at the very end of the process. Dipping your piece in Liver of Sulphur allows you to add beautiful colours to your work. You can then re-polish the 'high' spots on your piece so they have a high shine while the deeper areas remain patina'd. Or simply leave the whole piece with the colours.

Some people have found that putting their patina'd pieces into their tumble polisher contaminates the barrel, shot and liquid. This causes any subsequent pieces tumbled to take on the patina. Other people have had no problem with this.

If you do decide to tumble your piece after adding Liver of Sulphur, it may be wise to thoroughly wash the barrel and shot and replace the liquid with fresh.
