Who's behind the Metal Clay Academy?

The Metal Clay Academy was the brainchild of Lisa Cain, Director of the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery and Director of the PMC Guild in the UK. In discussions with other metal clay artists and teachers the idea developed into the website you see today.

Julia Rai, a UK based metal clay teacher and artist took on the task of setting up the website, populating it and promoting it. She is the Director of the Metal Clay Academy. The Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery sponsored the set up of the website.

Many metal clay artists and teachers have had input to the website during the set up phase. We'll be relying on input from everyone in the metal clay community to ensure this site becomes the most comprehensive resource for metal clay anywhere.

September 2009

A piece of work by Metal Clay Academy director Julia Rai has been chosen for the cover of the 2010 Art and Design of Metal Clay Jewelry Calendar. Julia said, "I'm absolutely thrilled and delighted that my Mayan Bead has been chosen for the front cover of the Calendar." The Calendar will be available to buy from the above link around the middle of October.

Metal Clay Academy Director Julia Rai has just achieved the Metal Clay Masters Registry II. This makes her one of only three people in the World who currently hold this prestigious and professional credential at level II.

The Metal Clay Masters Registry is based on fifty specific projects, organized into five thematic categories. Moving at their own pace, and with a combination of imposed and elective choices, a candidate will be professionally evaluated upon completion of ten projects. This format allows some elective choices within a structure that will insure breadth. Upon successful completion of each division, the artist is entitled to add the designation Masters Registry I (or II, III, IV, or V) in their professional credentials.

The Masters Registry is international in scope and is open to all artists working in metal clay. It is not tied to a manufacturer, distributors, or discounts.
